FMM, Stay Up to 180 Days
The immigration characteristics and categories with a stay period up to 180 days that
are to be filed with the FMM are as follows:

  1. Extensions upon the authority opinion
  2. Expiration related to the election process period, as well as to the call issued by the electoral organism.
  3. Foreign nationals may only be filed as students holding a FMM when they bear a visa that indicates so, or in
    the cases exempted, when it is a student exchange or to pursue studies that do not imply an official
    certification with duration over 180 days.
  • Foreign nationals with FMM under students or cult ministries or religion members,
    of his/her entry in order to enroll in the National Foreigners Registration.

  • Economic dependant must get an FMM equivalent to that authorized to a non-
    immigrant foreign national from whom he/she will be dependant on, which shall not
    be longer than 180 days.

  • Depending on the nature of each particular case and when the immigration status
    requires so, the foreign national’s stay in the country may be extended.

FMM, Subject to Replacement with FM3 or FM2
The foreign national who bears a visa enabling him/her to obtain a FM3 or FM2 in
Mexico, shall fill out the FMM form and submit it at the port of entry. The immigration
authority shall hold the entry registration section and shall deliver the foreign national
the exit registration section.

In these cases, the FMM only authorizes a 30-days lawful stay in the country as from the
foreign national’s re-entry, therefore, he/she shall apply, prior to the expiration of such
term, for an FM2 or FM3 replacement at the Regional Delegation of the INM
corresponding to his/her address, provided that he/she meets the requirements
established for the application of “Immigration forms issue or replacement”.

The foreign national that does not replace the FMM with an FM3 or FM2 as the case
may be, within the period established in the above paragraph, shall find himself on an
irregular situation and shall be subject to the penalties set forth by the LGP.

FMM, for Statistic Purposes
The FMM for foreign nationals who, in virtue of International Rights standards, bear a
non-ordinary visa, in case of suppression of a visa, a non-ordinary passport or
diplomatic passport; as well as for bearers of immigration forms in force, only has
statistics effects, and does not authorize a legal stay in any event.
